When drivers from Zionsville to Bloomington need an ultra-rugged truck for work or play, they choose the Ford Super Duty. As part of the F-Series, which has been America’s best-selling truck for more than 45 years straight, these trucks pack some serious swag that lets you tow heavy loads, carry heaps of supplies, or rock-crawl in the wilderness.

At Pearson Ford, we have a Ford Super Duty for sale that will keep you ahead of the curve. In particular, the Ford F-250 and F-350 are trucks you should have your eyes on. Unless you’re doing commercial work daily, such as hauling flatbeds, trucks like the Ford F-450 or F-650 may be overkill. At the same time, plenty of Central Indiana drivers are looking for something with a little more clout than Ford’s flagship F-150. Join us as we explore what’s great about the 2024 Ford F-250 and F-350 so you can see how they help you do more seven days a week.

A Beefy Powertrain for Big Loads

A strong truck starts with a strong powertrain, and the Ford F-250 and F-350 deliver on this front. Every model runs on an eight-cylinder engine, and there are two gas and two diesel options. The baseline 6.8L V8 brings 405 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, while the 7.3L V8 steps it up to 430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque. The only F-150 engine that can rival this is the supercharged V8 on the Raptor R. Furthermore, all gas-powered F-250 and F-350 trucks with a bed can now run on E85 fuel or 87 octane, giving you more options when it’s time to fill up.

If you want maximum pull, one of the diesel powerplants is your best bet. The 6.7L turbo-diesel V8 available on most trims has an impressive 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. But even that pales compared to the high-output version of this engine, available exclusively on the Limited trim, which has 500 hp and a best-in-class 1,200 lb-ft of torque. Every engine option is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and is available in rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD).

All of this means plenty of brawn for towing. Depending on the configuration, the F-250 with the high-output diesel can reach 22,000 lbs of conventional towing and 23,000 lbs of fifth wheel/gooseneck towing; the F-350 checks in at a remarkable 32,900 lbs for the latter. Full-size campers, race car haulers, excavators, and compactors are no match for these trucks. For good measure, a properly equipped F-350 can support a payload of 8,000 lbs, too.

Heavy-Duty Yet Handles Like a Dream

One reason some people hesitate to buy a heavy-duty truck is the driving experience. Large trucks are known for not being the most responsive or maneuverable machines; Consumer Reports has found that it’s more difficult to avoid a crash when you’re driving a huge truck. In this regard, the 2024 Ford F-250 and F-350 are the perfect compromise. In their annual review, Motor Trend observed the 2024 F-250 is surprisingly deft for its size, handling more like the F-150 than a heavy-duty truck. While the even bigger F-350 isn’t quite as agile on a normal drive, it arguably handles nicely with a trailer hooked on, making it an ideal tower.

How does Ford achieve this? It starts with a high-end suspension that has front coil springs, heavy-duty gas shocks, roll stability control, trailer sway control, all-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, and a choice of a manual or automatic locking hub when you have 4WD. There are up to four selectable drive modes that tune the ECU and suspension to conditions such as slippery roads and fuel-efficient highway driving.

Furthermore, multiple off-road packages are available, including the XL off-road package for the lower trims and the FX4 off-road package for the Limited. These include features like an e-locker rear differential, bigger tires, skid plates, and a modified front approach angle to improve performance.

Six Trims for Any Needs and Budget

Even in the Super Duty, truck enthusiasts vary wildly on what they need and want. That’s why Ford offers the 2024 F-250 and F-350 in half a dozen trims. While many great features like front tow hooks, automatic headlights, hill start assistance, and 43.9 inches of front legroom are standard across the trim lineup, the different trims let you fit advanced features into your budget. Here’s a quick synopsis of each…

The XL

This is the basic work truck version of the F-250 and F-350. It comes with the base 6.8L V8 engine; a choice of three cabs (Regular Cab, SuperCab, or Crew Cab); a 6.75-foot or 8-foot bed; and an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen with standard wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, and a rearview camera.

The XLT

In addition to all four engine options, the Super Duty XLT has a full complement of active driver assistance features like automatic emergency braking. You also get color-matched carpeting, added power outlets, and standard 18-inch wheels.

The Lariat

This trim upgrades you to LED reflector headlights, fog lamps, box lights, and side-mirror spotlights for better visibility in all conditions. The infotainment screen and digital gauge display jump to 12 inches; you also get a wireless charging pad, an eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, satellite radio capability, a 360-degree camera, and blind spot monitoring.

The King Ranch

Take your towing and off-roading to the next level with onboard scales, backup and hitch assistance, 20-inch wheels, exclusive scuff plates, and rear wheel well liners. The Super Duty King Ranch has more standard driver aids like adaptive cruise control and connected navigation services. The 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, 12-inch head-up display, and leather seats will make you feel like royalty.

The Platinum

As the choice for a more luxurious ride, the Platinum has all of the King Ranch’s features, as well as polished aluminum wheels, onyx leather or Carmelo leather upholstery, and reflector or projector headlights.

The Limited

This is the crème-de-la-crème of the F-250 and F-350 lineups. In addition to the high-output diesel engine, you receive standard projector headlights, a power moonroof on the Crew Cab, a lane centering aid, a 10-way adjustable driver seat, a suede headliner, and a unique grille finish.

Beyond this, customization options range from factory-installed bed liners to front bumper winches. With the Regular Cab, you can even get the truck without a bed to hook directly to an enclosed hauler or box trailer.

The Super Duty Tremor Package

Are you an experienced off-roader who wants even more than the XL or FX4 packages provide? Beginning in 2024, Ford is now offering their famous Tremor off-road package on the F-250 King Ranch and Platinum. This loadout includes:

  • Eighteen-inch wheels with 35-inch all-terrain tires.
  • A suspension with twin-tube dampers tuned for off-road driving.
  • Two more inches of front-end height to clear obstacles.
  • Rock Crawl and Trail Control selectable driving modes.
  • An electronically locking rear differential and a limited-slip front differential.
  • Trail-turn assistance for a smaller turning radius.

The Tremor package has been seen in the F-150, Maverick, and Ranger, but the behemoth Super Duty lets you take the biggest advantage of it. It could be the difference-maker in deciding what trim to choose.
