Breaking Down the Ford Maverick

The Ford Maverick is a compact truck that was introduced for the 2022 model year and has been turning heads ever since. In fact, the 2025 model was awarded “10 Best” from Car and Driver and earned the number one spot in MotorTrend’s rankings as well. When looking at our selection of Maverick options, you will see there are five trims to choose from, each with its own distinct features.

Maverick XL

The XL is the base trim, but you will quickly see that it has quite a bit to offer. It has a standard 2.5L hybrid engine with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which offers an EPA-estimated 42 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. For commuters, this is key, as spending less on gas gives you more money in your budget for other things. However, if you need more power, opt for the 2.0L EcoBoost all-wheel drive (AWD) gas engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which clocks in at 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. New for 2025, you can get the hybrid and gas-powered engine with AWD, giving you better options for a winter-ready Maverick. In the cab, you will find that the XL is equipped with SYNC 4 technology that can be accessed via the 13.2-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen, along with multiple 12V powerpoints, USB ports, rear under-seat storage bins, and more.

At the truck’s rear, the XL comes standard with Ford’s FLEXBED Storage System, which features a configurable tailgate and a lowered bed with verticle and horizontal slots along the side. This system allows you to use the bed space as you see fit, creating your own segmented spaces using 2×4 or 2×6 boards along the included slots. For a base trim, many drivers will find the XL gives them everything they need for a smooth commute and to check off most of the tasks they have waiting for them at home.

Maverick XLT

While the XL offers a way to check off the boxes on your to-do list at home, the XLT gives you the motivation to fly through that list and enjoy the great outdoors in a way you might not have considered before, especially when you opt for the available FX4 Off-Road Package. For starters, the XLT is equipped with the same standard engine as the XL and offers the same optional engines. Additionally, you will find the same 12V powerpoints and USB ports onboard. However, when choosing the XLT, you can opt for available 400W/110V outlets—one in the rear console and one in the truck bed. This is great for drivers needing added electric power, such as when using your truck for work or camping with friends.

Interior amenities include an available wrapped and heated steering wheel and a remote start system, which are excellent for chillier mornings. Other perks with this trim that aren’t available when choosing the XL include an optional power moonroof and Ford’s standard Intelligent Access with push-button start. Regarding connectivity, the same 13.2-inch touchscreen is included for easy access to your favorite playlist, turn-by-turn directions, and more.

Maverick Lobo

The Lobo trim is new for the 2025 model year and is specifically designed for performance. It offers a standard 2.0L EcoBoost engine with four-wheel drive (4WD), clocking in at the same 250 hp but now paired with a seven-speed quick-shift automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Unlike a more off-road-focused trim like the XLT with the FX4 Off-Road Package, the Lobo is built more like an urban muscle car, featuring a lowered suspension, upgraded brakes, power-assisted steering, and rally-inspired 19-inch wheels. Inside, the Lobo boasts a more stylish look befitting a luxury model, with standard ActiveX-trimmed seats and Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching. The Lobo offers a stylish ride for those interested in making sure their vehicle is easily noticed from the moment it turns the corner.

You will also find additional comfort features onboard, including an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat with lumbar support and the option to add heated seats. Additionally, you can opt for dual-zone temperature controls to ensure you and your passengers feel right at home. Speaking of feeling right at home, you will get the same access to the apps you use most as the previous two trims, thanks to Ford’s SYNC 4 system and the 13.2-inch touchscreen. You can enhance your ride even further by opting for features like an available wireless charging pad, power moonroof, remote start system, and ambient lighting, just to name a few.

Maverick Lariat

While the XLT can be equipped to help you tackle the trails, and the Lobo is set for cruising downtown, the Lariat is the option to choose if you’re looking for sophisticated styling and a hint of luxury. The Lariat comes standard with a 2.5L hybrid AWD, but you can opt for a 2.0L EcoBoost AWD if you wish. Thanks to the 19-inch Machined-face Bright Aluminum Wheels and High Gloss Black painted grille, the Lariat offers distinctive exterior styling that signals it as a luxury model. As an option, you can choose the Machined-face Ebony Aluminum wheels that come with the available Black Package. Other exterior highlights include black tailgate handles and black-painted skullcaps on the mirrors.

On the inside, the Smoked Truffle ActiveX-trimmed seats continue to set a luxurious tone, along with standard features such as an eight-speaker B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen with HD Radio and an eight-inch productivity screen in the instrument cluster. You will also find standard wireless charging, heated seats, a powered eight-way adjustable driver seat with power lumbar, a remote start system with push-button start, ambient lighting, multiple options for charging devices or powering up equipment, and the same rear under-seat storage bins found throughout the lineup.

Maverick Tremor

While you can enjoy a bit of off-roading when choosing to add the FX4 Off-Road Package to the XLT, the Tremor truly takes outdoor adventure to the next level with its off-road-tuned suspension system, lockable rear differential and technology that makes hitting the trails easier than ever before. The Tremor comes equipped with the same 2.0L EcoBoost Advanced 4WD engine we saw on the Lobo but now paired with an eight-speed transmission and an exclusive twin-clutch rear drive unit for enhanced traction on the trail. Additionally, the Tremor has its own unique exterior styling, including two front hooks and an upper grille with Tremor Orange painted accents. Its front bumper is also designed to have an improved approach angle.

On the inside, you will find power-adjustable driver seating, heated seats, dual-zone climate controls, the same sound system as the Lariat trim, and the same 13.2-inch touchscreen found in all the trims. Other standard features include a wireless charging pad, USB charging ports, a 400W inverter with rear console USBs, an acoustic windshield, ambient lighting, rear under-seat storage bins, and all-weather floor liners.
