You probably have a lot on your mind while shopping for a vehicle since you have so many decisions to make and things to consider, plus you’re trying to figure out financing and handle everything else. All of that being said, perhaps the most important thing you can consider is how well your vehicle will help protect you while you’re on the road, which comes down to one thing: safety features. Whether you’re about to head to Pearson Ford, your favorite Ford dealer in Indiana, or you’re just starting to consider your options with a Ford model, you should know that Ford vehicles are among the safest out there.

Not only does Ford deliver on the kinds of standard safety features that you expect from every model on the road—basics like effective seatbelts and airbags—but they also load their vehicles up with some of the most impressive advanced safety technology out there. You won’t necessarily find all of these things on every model––some of the highest-level stuff is reserved for the top trims––but whenever you see the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of safety technology, you know you’re looking at something special. Let’s take a look at what we’re talking about and get to know some of the amazing safety tech that Ford brings to the road.

Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking

Regardless of how safely you drive, the unexpected can always happen, which is when you need to be able to count on your vehicle to help you out. Pre-Collision Assist can detect when a potential crash is likely to occur and warn you about it, while Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) can automatically apply or help support you during hard braking to avoid a crash. Ford’s impressive technology can detect both other vehicles and pedestrians to help keep you and everyone else safer on the road.

Lane-Keeping System

Ford’s Lane-Keeping System is there to help you when you get a bit distracted or find yourself struggling to stay focused on the road. It will detect when you wander close to the edge of your lane without signaling and alert you if you’re starting to drift too much. If the system notices that you’ve drifted close to the lines a few times, it will illuminate a coffee cup icon on the dashboard to remind you that it might be time to take a break from driving.

BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert

One of our favorite bits of safety technology, the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) is designed to watch for other vehicles that might be in your blind spot on either side of your car. It will warn you when a vehicle is hiding in your blind spot, so you don’t have to hope that the coast is clear when you‘re changing lanes. The Cross-Traffic Alert takes things even further by warning you while you’re in reverse if a vehicle is approaching and about to cross behind you.

BLIS with Trailer Coverage

If you’re interested in a powerful Ford truck for doing some towing, then you’ll be happy to know about this innovative bit of technology. This is an augmented version of the standard BLIS tech that can warn you not only of people in your blind spot but those riding alongside your trailer, which can also make them difficult to see. Ford trucks like the F-150 are renowned for truly incredible towing capability, so having added safety for them is the icing on the cake.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist

Another fantastic safety feature designed to support towing is Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which makes it easier to maneuver while towing. Rather than cranking the steering wheel back and forth in numerous attempts to back up into a tight spot, you can simply turn a knob, and it will adjust the trailer for you. Whether you’re trying to back into a boat launch or get a trailer through a tight construction site, this makes it easy.

Hill Descent Control

Whether you’re doing some towing or not, navigating a heavy and powerful Ford truck or SUV downhill can be intense. With Hill Descent Control, the vehicle will help you maintain a set speed while you’re driving down an incline by automatically applying the brake for you as needed. This makes it easier to maintain a steady speed and focus on dealing with curves, obstacles, or anything else you encounter on the road.

Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control

Standard cruise control is excellent since it allows you to set a speed and your vehicle will maintain that without you needing to press the gas. Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control goes further by letting you set a preferred speed while also automatically adjusting to traffic around you to avoid a collision. It can bring you to a stop if needed and even detect speed signs on the road to adjust your speed and help you avoid a ticket.

Evasive Steering Assist

If you’re a safe and careful driver, then you deserve a vehicle that can help enhance your existing abilities. Evasive Steering Assist from Ford can provide extra steering support when you need to maneuver suddenly to avoid a collision. This kind of technology is the perfect example of how Ford can help every driver, no matter how cautious and defensive you are.

Active Park Assist 2.0

Another one of our favorite driver-assist technologies, Active Park Assist 2.0 can take over for you and handle all of the tough stuff when getting into or out of a tight spot. You simply activate the system, find a parking spot that your vehicle can fit in, and it will handle all of the maneuvering for you. All you have to do is brake to a stop when you want to start the system and let your Ford do the rest—plus, it works for both parallel and reverse perpendicular parking.

Auto High-Beam Headlamps

Your high beams are incredibly important when it gets dark and there’s poor lighting on the road. With Auto High-Beam Headlamps, your Ford can detect low light and automatically activate your high beams to help improve visibility. Even better, the system can also detect oncoming traffic and automatically deactivate your high beams to avoid blinding other drivers and then switch them back on after passing.

BlueCruise

Few pieces of cutting-edge safety technology are as exciting as the prospect of autonomous driving with vehicles that can handle everything for you so you can just sit back and relax. While we’re not there just yet, Ford’s incredible BlueCruise system is getting close with hands-free semi-autonomous driving that uses a combination of other technologies like Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control and the Lane-Keeping System. You still have to keep your eyes on the road and be ready to take over just in case, but BlueCruise allows for true hands-free driving on more than 130,000 miles of roads in North America.

Discover the Comfort of Incredible Safety

As you can see, Ford continues to innovate and go further with the kinds of safety technology that they’re packing into their vehicles. Whether you’re looking for something to supplement your driving skills and help keep you safer, some tech to make hauling a trailer full of building materials easier, or the incredible experience of safely driving with your hands off the wheel, Ford has you covered. It’s easy to look at everything that Ford offers right now and start to imagine what their safety tech will look like one or two decades from now—it will undoubtedly change the way all of us drive forever.
