Exploring the 2022 Ford Lineup

This year is going to be a momentous one. Sure, many manufacturers claim to have big things in store, but Ford stands out for a reason amongst its peers. Why is this? Well, very few manufacturers can match the sheer size of Ford’s lineup, but more importantly, Ford’s vehicles often reach levels of success competing models could only hope of achieving. You may immediately notice this upon your arrival at Pearson Ford, your local Ford dealership, and we encourage you to browse through the brand new collection of 2022 models because there’s something for everyone. A choice of SUVs is accompanied by powerhouse trucks and vans, along with the venerable Mustang. Combined, the lineup consists of a wide range of models, many of which are either EVs, hybrids, or plug-in hybrids.
We’ll be giving an overview of each class of vehicles Ford offers for the 2022 model year, and we’ll point out a few notable models you should consider once you’re ready to begin shopping. Truck drivers will be pleased with the sheer scale of performance, SUV drivers will be astonished at the capabilities, and sports car fans have the Mustang, and they’re quite pleased with it. One thing’s for sure – every Ford vehicle is within the lineup for a reason, and it’s because Ford’s standards are higher than other big-name brands you may have dealt with in the past.
The 2022 Trucks
Ford’s assortment of pickup trucks this year is arguably the strongest it’s ever been. On the entry-level, we have the all-new Ford Maverick, but don’t let its accessible price tag fool you – this truck packs a punch for the price. The Maverick comes standard as a hybrid, but those interested in a more traditional powertrain will have the choice of a turbocharged engine, which can tow up to 4,000 lbs, and pairs to an 8-speed automatic transmission instead of a CVT. Certainly on the lower-end of towing performance, but it’s the perfect truck for drivers either looking to get into pickup trucks, those who want a hybrid, or both.
The Ford Ranger is the logical next step between the Maverick and the incredibly popular Ford F-150. At the cost of some cargo space, the Ranger increases the towing capacity by 87.5%, up to 7,500 lbs. However, the F-150 is the star of the show, for the most part, as it’s Ford’s most popular selling truck to date.
Positioned as the pickup truck for both the upcoming and already established enthusiasts, the F-150 gives drivers the cargo space, tech, and performance they’re looking for in a properly-fitted pickup truck. The F-150 ups the ante significantly, offering five available powertrains, including Ford’s venerable 5.0L Coyote V8 engine and a turbocharged V6 capable of 400 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, with a strong towing capacity of 14,000 lbs.
However, the F-150 isn’t the highest you can go in performance. The F-250, F-350, and F-450 all bring forth an exemplary amount of power, with all three trucks offering up 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, but the difference between the three is substantial in towing. The F-250 will tow up to 22,800 lbs, which is plenty, but the F-350 increases this to 35,750 lbs, and the F-450 adds upon this further – this time to 37,000 lbs. These three are listed as Super Duty trucks for a reason.
The real truck of the hour, however, is the F-150 Lightning. This is a fully-electric pickup truck, and the results are stunning, with an estimated 563 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque, along with a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs. Best of all, the idea of an electric truck was met with skepticism purely on the idea of how far you can travel on a single charge, but the F-150 Lightning proved everyone wrong with 300 miles of available range on one full charge.

2022 Ford SUVs
Ford SUVs are as abundant as the pickup trucks, with eight capable models to select from. Sitting at the front of the line is the EcoSport, which provides a competent SUV experience at a far lower cost than its peers. The EcoSport is a five-seater, and it offers families 20.9 cu.ft. of space, but the driver may extend this to 50 cu.ft. if needed. However, the main appeal of the EcoSport is its EPA-estimated ratings of 23 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway with AWD. The next available Ford SUV is the Escape, which not only garners far more performance than the EcoSport, with up to 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, it’s also more fuel-efficient with 28 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway with FWD.
Next is the Bronco, which made its long-awaited return last year to an incredible reception. For many drivers, the 2021 Bronco, and the 2022 model sequentially, have achieved the task of bringing a familiar name back into the limelight. This off-roading SUV gives drivers a standard 4×4 system, and higher-tier trims can easily traverse across seven different types of terrains. The Bronco is also a powerhouse with a turbocharged V6, giving drivers 325 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, drivers seeking a manual transmission will have this option, should they opt for the Bronco’s turbocharged I-4 engine.
Last year also saw the introduction of the Bronco Sport alongside the regular Bronco. Not only does the Bronco Sport allow for off-roading tasks, albeit lesser ones than the traditional Bronco, it’s also slated as a cheaper alternative, with a strong emphasis on everyday travel. As a subcompact SUV, it’s a smaller reimagining of the vehicle it shares its namesake with, but it still creates 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, thanks to an available 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine.
If you want a more performant SUV, the Edge has 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque, with 73.4 cu.ft. of available cargo space. However, the 2022 Explorer not only gives you up to 5,600 lbs of towing capacity, but it garners a total maximum cargo capacity of 87.8 cu.ft. Best of all, an available hybrid option gives you EPA-estimated ratings of 27 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway, all while still retaining over 5,000 lbs available for towing.
Of course, you can’t discuss Ford SUVs and not mention the Mustang Mach-E and Expedition. The Mustang Mach-E shares its namesake with the titular sports car but is an all-electric SUV, but is still capable of fantastic performance, with its available 480 hp and 634 lb-ft of torque. Lastly, the Expedition is essentially the whole package. With the Expedition, you get incredible performance, up to 9,300 lbs for towing, and a whopping 121.5 cu.ft. of space if you opt for the MAX edition, or you’ll have up to 104.6 cu.ft. otherwise, which is still impressive.

This Year Is an Achievement
Ford’s 2022 lineup has proven more than anything that this manufacturer still has a good amount of tricks up its sleeve when it comes to stealing the spotlight. By comparison, other lineups we’ve seen this year seem flat-out bland. As a company, Ford isn’t one to sit still long, if at all, with a constantly evolving lineup – one which gives every vehicle produced a sense of evolution. Every Ford vehicle you drive will all have one thing in common, and it’s something every Ford vehicle is built with–quality. As we mentioned earlier, there are very few manufacturers out there with a lineup that matches the quantity of Ford’s, but the quality is where several competitors fall short. Ford’s vehicles are built Ford tough; we’ve all heard the motto. However, now’s the time to experience it for yourself, and the first order of business is to visit us at Pearson Ford.
