    Three Powertrain Options for You

When you choose your Ford Explorer, you’ll also have a choice of powertrain. Is your family conscious of the environment and interested in doing what it can to ease the burden on the planet? There’s an Explorer for that. Is your family the one that goes to more rustic places, requiring a vehicle that has enough oomph to get you there? There’s an explorer for that too. Do you live in an area with a high likelihood of snow, rain, and mud? There’s an Explorer that can get you through the rough weather seasons. Whatever you have going on in your life, whatever lifestyle suits you best, the 2023 Ford Explorer is adaptable.

The Ford Explorer comes with a multitude of engine options, including a 2.3L turbocharged EcoBoost I-4, a 3.0L turbocharged EcoBoost V6, and a 3.3L hybrid V6. The 2.3L turbocharged I-4 has the lowest ratings at 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, which is still excellent for an SUV model. The 3.0L V6 has the highest output at 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque, leaving the V6 Hybrid comfortably in the middle generating 318 hp and 322 lb-ft of torque.

All Explorers come standard with rear-wheel drive, but if you want more traction and control, there is the option for intelligent four-wheel drive. When it comes to the transmission, whatever engine you go with is paired with a standard ten-speed automatic, though there are two trim levels that offer the option to include select shift capability––the ST and Timberland.

  • Trims

    The Base

The base model of the 2023 Explorer is a showstopper in its own right, with LED taillamps, a body-color rear spoiler, and a power liftgate with an applique in chrome. There’s an optional bumper protector in black if you feel you want an extra layer between you and the natural elements or a potential bump from the driver behind you. Inside, you’ll find an air filtration system with controls in the front and back, a steering wheel with mounted features, a rearview camera, and dome and map lights in all three rows. It also comes with a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, which can pair with either your Android or Apple phone.

    The XLT

The Explorer XLT comes with roof rack side rails, LED signature lighting, heated mirrors, and privacy glass, along with an interior full of goodies. There is a leather-wrapped steering wheel, four 12V Powerpoints, two second-row smart-charging USB ports, heated front seats, and ActiveX seating material, which not only looks luxurious but is easier to clean than cloth or leather seating.

    The ST-Line

Exterior features on the ST-Line trim level include things like body-color door handles, dual chrome exhaust tips, rain-sensing wipers, LED fog lamps, and a black rear fascia applique. Inside the ST-Line, you’ll see a wealth of trim-specific luxuries, such as intelligent access with a push-button start, a 360-degree camera with a split-view display, multi-color ambient lighting, a wireless charging pad, a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a B&O 12-speaker stereo system that includes a subwoofer.

    The Timberline

Further up, the Timberline boasts of its rugged nature with a unique dark carbonized gray grille, tow hooks, a blackout treatment on the headlamps and taillamps, and Timberline badges on the C pillars and liftgate. Open the doors and look at the interior features that include a cargo area management system, floor liners, a steering wheel stitched in a tangerine color, and a unique door look with a deep cypress insert, also stitched in the aforementioned tangerine color.

    The Limited

The Limited trim level is a suave, sophisticated vehicle that isn’t afraid to be admired. Its body-color door handles come with a bright insert, the front skid plate elements are painted silver, and the grille sports chrome bars and silver mesh. These subtle nods to quality don’t stop at the exterior. Inside, you’ll find carpet floor mats, second-row sunblinds, and a universal garage door opener, perfect for the urban or city family that wants to ride in comfort with all the necessities.

    The ST

Another level higher is the ST trim, which comes with body-color door handles with a black insert, front and back black skid plates, a black mesh grille, quad chrome exhaust tips, and an Explorer hood badge. Once inside, you’ll see door sill scuff plates in the front and back and a sport-style steering wheel with the ST logo.

    The King Ranch

The penultimate trim level, King Ranch, comes with a liftgate scuff in Java, side view mirrors that are power-folding and heated with LED turn signal indicators, security approach lamps, auto-dimming on the driver’s side, and it’s all wrapped up in a premium finish. Step inside, take a seat, and take in the black King Ranch carpet, a Mesa Del Rio leather-covered center console with the King Ranch “W” logo, and real Sapele wood appliques on the instrument panel.

    The Platinum

Last but certainly not least, the 2023 Explorer Platinum comes with adaptive headlamps, body-color door handles with a Satin Aluminum insert, a grille with a Satin Aluminum finish, and Satin Aluminum lower bodyside cladding insert. Once inside, you’ll revel at the quality, luxury, and tech available: illuminated front scuff plates and multi-piece appliques on the instrument panel made of gray ash swirl (real wood). Want more? Options include a twin-panel moonroof, front multi-contour seats, a cargo mat and organizers, floor liners for the second and third rows, and a roadside assistance kit.

  • Safety

Equipped With Features to Keep You Safe

Of course, none of these luxuries would be comforting in the event of an emergency, so the newest Ford Explorer comes equipped to assist in a variety of ways so as to keep you, your passengers, and even your cargo safe. Standard safety features include the front passenger knee airbag, a safety canopy, the LATCH system (lower anchors and tether anchors for children), a belt minder, auto hold, roll stability control, and an SOS post-crash alert system.

Going up levels, you can add on a perimeter alarm, the SecuriLock passive anti-theft system, and an ITPMS (Individual Tire Pressure Monitoring System). Not to mention, each Ford Explorer model comes equipped with Ford Co-Pilot360. This suite of driver-assist features is there to help you navigate the roads easier, with alerts and assisted braking or steering to help you avoid getting in an accident.

With these anti-theft, vehicle monitoring, and safety tech systems in place, you’ll be able to relax, handling whatever happens with the knowledge that your vehicle is there to protect you and even those outside the vehicle. Whether you drive home late and have to look out for wildlife, or you’re in bumper-to-bumper traffic every morning and evening, or if you’re traversing the wild outdoors with no company, the 2023 Ford Explorer can help you stay safe so that you’re able to enjoy the next adventure.
