  • Overview

We used to live in a world where there was no such thing as a middle ground for those of us who needed a truck but also wanted to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Well, times are changing, and Ford now has an incredible hybrid truck that makes that compromise possible. The new 2022 Ford Maverick is an incredible hybrid truck that allows drivers the convenience of a truck with the fuel efficiency of a car. This switch to hybrid power doesn't mean that Ford is giving drivers a less capable truck, though.

The Ford Maverick is able to tow up to 4,000 pounds and put out up to 250 horsepower, making these trucks capable, quick, and a joy to have on the road. When it comes to smaller trucks, there's no reason for drivers to look any further than the Ford Maverick, because it offers everything you need at prices that fit just about any budget. Starting at just $19,995, the Ford Maverick is easy on the wallet right off the lot, and with gas mileage as high as 42 miles per gallon in the city, it's easy on your wallet down the road, too! [a]

  • Performance

    Standard Hybrid Powertrain

When it comes down to performance, the Maverick has two different engine options to consider. The standard engine is a 2.5-liter hybrid. This engine gets a combined 191 horsepower, meaning it's quick and efficient on the roads. For a small truck, the Maverick is incredibly fun to drive, and you can feel good knowing that you have excellent fuel efficiency to boot. The standard hybrid engine is able to get drivers 42 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway, and it has a gas tank that holds nearly 14 gallons. One tank can get you over 500 miles. Combine its awesome fuel efficiency with the nimble platform, and the Maverick is a great truck to drive for business or pleasure.

    Available EcoBoost Engine

Ford allows drivers to swap the standard engine out for a 2.0-liter Ecoboost engine as well. This engine can get 250 horsepower, making it fast right off the line and giving drivers a little extra work power. This extra horsepower translates over to drivers being able to get to 60 miles per hour in under 6 seconds. With an 8-speed automatic transmission, this engine gets a slightly lower fuel economy of 23 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway.

If you choose to get the all-wheel drive option for this engine, you can expect a combined fuel economy of 25 miles per gallon. The very small sacrifice to fuel efficiency does give the Maverick a bit more versatility, though. Those additional driven wheels make the Maverick able to handle rough and unpredictable terrains. The all-wheel drive system also comes with an upgraded independent multi-link rear suspension, giving the Maverick a smooth ride that won't lose traction on rough terrain.

  • Towing and Cargo Capacity

    A Hybrid That Performs

Usually, when you're looking at trucks, it's because you have a need to haul or tow. Hybrids aren't typically known for their ability to perform in this area because they're typically small, eco-friendly cars. However, the times are changing, and it is now possible to have your cake and eat it. Ford accomplishes this daunting task with the Maverick. The Maverick is able to tow up to 2,000 pounds with the standard hybrid engine or up to 4,000 pounds with the optional EcoBoost power plant. That is enough for you to be able to tow some cars, most medium-sized boats, a smaller camp trailer, or a small dump trailer.

The Maverick can also handle a payload of up to 1,500 pounds, no matter which engine options you choose. Payload is the weight that goes in the bed and cab of the truck. 1,500 pounds in the bed of your Ford Maverick could look like moving some furniture or home appliances, or it could look like a dirt bike or four-wheeler in the bed of the truck; there is really quite a bit that you could fit within the realm of 1,500 pounds of payload availability.

    Room for People and Cargo

When it comes to cargo capacity, Ford has gone all out again. The Maverick is just filled with nooks and crannies to put stuff in. Ford has equipped the Mavericks with a standard 4.5-foot bed, which is shorter than most truck beds but gives the truck the ability to make tighter turns. The shorter bed really doesn't decrease the cargo capacity by much, as the total capacity is 33.3 cubic feet of storage space. It also allows the Maverick to come with a standard four-door Crew Cab that is also able to seat a total of five passengers.

  • Trims

    Three Great Trims!

Another area that people are really loving about the Maverick is the customizability. When it comes to meeting your needs without neglecting the environment, the Ford Maverick is the perfect truck. There's a trim option available to help the Maverick fit any budget and any requirements. Combined with the upgradeable towing capabilities, convenience features, incredible fuel economy, and affordable price tag, this makes the 2022 Maverick the best truck in its class.

    XL

This trim can be equipped with either engine option and gives drivers a couple of upgrades. Starting with safety upgrades, this trim gets the pre-collision package that Ford offers, which includes automatic emergency braking, lane keep assistance, and a lane departure warning, among other features. It also gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto paired with a standard 8-inch infotainment screen. The stereo system has six speakers and a Wi-Fi hotspot with FordPass. FordPass is Ford's smartphone-compatible app that allows additional features for your vehicle to be accessed via your mobile device. This trim also gives drivers the convenience of steering wheel controls for audio playback. This is a great trim to get an incredibly affordable truck with all the features you need.

    XLT

When you upgrade your Ford Maverick to the XLT trim, you get ten cargo strap downs instead of six for the truck bed. You also get an upgraded interior that is navy, gray, and orange, which makes it really pop and stand out from the interiors of other trucks. You'll get additional cubby storage options, cruise control, power mirrors, and a power tailgate lock. Your truck will get keyless entry with an exterior keypad, and you are able to add on the additional off-road or luxury package to this trim level.

    Lariat

Available for both the Hybrid and Ecoboost versions of the Maverick, the Lariat trim can come in 11 different exterior colors. Inside, the Lariat trim gets a larger instrument cluster screen and increases comfort features by adding dual-zone climate control, an 8-way power driver's seat, ambient lighting, a 6-way power passenger seat, upgraded seat materials, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. You also will get LED headlights, push-button start, and the option to upgrade the sound system. On the exterior, the Lariat gets upgraded 18-inch wheels, body-color door handles, and a sliding rear window that is power operated.

    Lariat First Edition

While not technically a trim, this special package is available on the top trim of the 2022 Maverick. It gives drivers a unique-looking truck with a lot of features. On the exterior, this trim upgrades the roof and side mirrors to have black caps. It also adds a power-operated moonroof, soft tonneau cover, bedliner, windshield de-icer, First Edition decals, and upgraded 17-inch or 18-inch wheels. The interior is upgraded with the Lariat Luxury Package, giving drivers and passengers heated seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start, satellite radio, wireless charging, an upgraded sound system, cargo box lights, and a power outlet. This trim also comes with upgraded safety features, such as evasive steering assistance, lane-keeping system, blind spot information system, post-collision braking, adaptive lane centering, and cruise control.
