  • Overview

Now into its second year back on the market, the 2022 Ford Bronco returns with even more trims and more options for customizing the off-road-oriented SUV built for adventurers. Ford created its Built Wild series in an effort to offer 4x4 vehicles with the right attributes for outdoor recreation and exploration, and as part of the series, the 2022 Bronco is already garnering awards and accolades. One prestigious distinction is the iF Design Gold Award, which the Bronco earned on its first year back to production. The iF Design Jury stated, “the 2021 Bronco is the 6th generation truck to carry the name but leans into the graphic imagery and utility-led architecture of the 1st-generation 1966 vehicle.”

Design is where the Bronco reigns the outdoors, with removable doors, modular bumpers, and two body styles for almost limitless customizing. Nine trims are now available for 2022 Bronco models, starting with the Base, which is the trim to buy if you plan to add after-market parts or accessories to make it truly your own. The second trim is the Big Bend with technology and convenience geared toward more interior comfort, followed by the more heavy-duty Black Diamond. Next is the more stylized and tech-oriented Outer Banks, the desert-running Wildtrak, and the more adventurous and heavier-duty Badlands.

New for 2022 is the water-fording Everglades equipped with a snorkel, and the Heritage and Heritage Limited models, which take the place of the First Edition model from the 2021 lineup. Heritage models will feature styling inspired by the first-generation Bronco, continuing the design theme. Also new for this year is the availability of the Sasquatch package for models with a manual transmission. While the Jeep Wrangler has long been the choice of off-roaders everywhere, the Ford Bronco is filling a new niche of off-road capability that combines toughness with convenience and comfort. Buyers will find that the 2022 Bronco makes a more road-friendly daily driver that translates its heavy-duty capability into your routine with ease.

  • Power and Capability

    Ready for the Wild

Ford designed the Bronco for off-roading, and the two engines that power the 2022 Bronco have all the capability needed for taking on any terrain. The standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine makes 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. It comes paired with a seven-speed manual transmission, although there is a ten-speed automatic as an option. The available 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 makes 325 hp with 415 lb-ft of torque and is paired exclusively to the ten-speed automatic transmission. Both powertrains offer the capability to tow up to 3,500 lbs when properly equipped.

New for 2022, the manual transmission can now be optioned with the Sasquatch package, which brings off-road upgrades like 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels wearing 35-inch mud-terrain tires, Dana front and rear electronic locking differentials, and Bilstein dampers that raise the ground clearance from the standard 8.3 inches to over 11 inches. Automatic transmission models come standard with Trail Control, which lets the driver set cruise speed for rough terrain so they can focus on safe maneuvering. All 2022 Bronco models come standard with four-wheel drive, and two 4x4 systems are available: a standard two-speed electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case or an available two-speed electromechanical transfer case with automatic on-demand engagement.

Starting with the Base 2022 Bronco, the G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Terrain) modes offer up to seven selectable options for terrain management, depending on the trim. Because the Bronco is built specifically for adverse conditions, the High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) system provides incredible stability for the Bronco to cross over uneven terrain with confidence and makes it possible to take this SUV into brutal environments most vehicles would never dare to go.

  • Technology

From Road to Trail and Back

Whether you drive the 2022 Bronco on the road or the trail, Ford provides ample technology for entertainment, connectivity, and adventuring. The standard infotainment system starts with an eight-inch touchscreen that allows interaction similar to smartphones, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allow smartphone connectivity for all models. Other standard features include a WiFi hotspot that supports up to ten devices at once, a SiriusXM trial, four charging ports, and a six-speaker audio system. Available features like wireless charging, an upgraded 12-inch touchscreen, and a ten-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system are found in upper trims.

Technology for the trail is wide-ranging for the 2022 Bronco. All automatic transmission models will come equipped with Trail Turn Assist, which tightens the turning radius when you need to maneuver in tough spots. Hill Descent Control and Trailer Sway Damping are standard for all 2022 models, and optional features like a 360-degree camera system provide clear views of the full exterior of the Bronco for safer travel when the roads come to an end. Trail One-Pedal Drive is available to assist with braking and acceleration control when rock crawling or in low-speed maneuvering. A built-in navigation system is possibly one of the most innovative features of the 2022 Bronco, with over 1,000 maps for off-road trail systems that can be downloaded and used even when service is unavailable.

Off-roaders who enjoy filming their experiences to share will benefit from the available rail system mounted atop the dashboard, and auxiliary switches can also be installed for accessories like off-roading lights, winches, or other equipment you need in the wilderness. Ford makes it simple to take the Bronco off-road with all the available options to customize, including roof tents and cargo management systems to allow for backwoods camping so you can take your adventure into remote places anytime. When you return to the road, the 2022 Bronco has standard driver-assist technology like Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking and Auto High-Beam Headlamps. Upper trims have options like Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control and Evasive Steering Assist to keep you safe while you drive in traffic.

  • Convenience and Space

    A Unique Design

The 2022 Ford Bronco has two available body styles. The Bronco two-door is more compact and seats four passengers. The cargo space behind the rear seat is 23.6 cubic feet, which can expand to 52.3 cubic feet when the rear seat is folded flat. The Bronco four-door is large enough to seat five, and cargo space ranges from 35.6 cubic feet in the back to 77.6 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. With the four-door model, cargo space in the rear compartment is large enough to accommodate all four of the removable doors, all of which are made of aluminum to be light enough for easy lifting. The exterior mirrors are mounted to the Bronco body, so you will still be able to use them even with the doors removed.

Specified trims have interiors that can be washed out with a hose for simple clean-up after off-roading or excursions where the interior gets dirty, and a drain in the floor helps clear away the water after the cleaning is done. Four-door models have the option of a handy Slide-Out Tailgate for meals or workspace, which can be added as an option for most trim levels, including the Base Bronco. When you get back on the trail after a meal, trail sights mounted to the front fenders serve the dual purpose of assisting with maneuvering off-road and doubling as a tie-down for cargo on the roof, which supports up to 150 pounds, a feature drawn from the earliest generation of the Bronco.

Standard features found on all 2022 Bronco trims include LED headlights, keyless entry with push-button ignition, and remote access through the FordPass app. Tow hooks are mounted to the front and rear of the 2022 Bronco to assist with extraction if needed and are standard for all trims. For the interior, upgrades like ambient lighting, heated front seats, and dual-zone climate control are a few of the comforts that are found in upper trims or can be added in packages as desired. Ford makes owning an off-road vehicle like the 2022 Bronco exciting with all the opportunities to make it your own, whether you plan to ride trails for the day or take an excursion for extended stays in the outdoors.
