Outdoor adventures are within anyone’s grasp, with the subcompact affordability matched to the capability of a true off-roading vehicle in the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport. Standard 4x4 capability means the Bronco Sport can take you virtually anywhere you want to go, especially with the upgraded off-roading equipment found on the Badlands model built for true trail riding, rock crawling, and even water fording. Each Bronco Sport model offers its own personality for the type of outdoor recreation you seek, and there’s room to bring your friends with seating for five passengers.

Four available trim levels begin with the Bronco Sport Base as the well-equipped entry-level model, followed by the more feature-laden Big Bend, the more luxurious leather-clad Outer Banks, and the rough-and-tumble Badlands with the most off-roading capability. All models come with the safari-style steel roof, which can handle up to 150 pounds of supplies or equipment when you need to travel with extra cargo. That same sturdy roof can also become a safe harbor away from home with the available accessories Ford offers, like a rooftop tent that keeps you warm and dry when you visit remote locations.

More than just access to the trail is found inside the 2022 Bronco Sport, with thoughtful features like adjustable floodlights in the liftgate that illuminate your worksite or camp kitchen when the sun goes down. Use the available cargo management system that includes a shelf, divider, and folding table to keep your supplies organized in the cargo area, and kick back with your favorite beverage that you can open with the handy bottle opener in the back hatch. Ford even includes flip-up rear glass in the liftgate for access to the rear cargo without having to open the whole back end, just one of the many ways the 2022 Bronco Sport is the perfect vehicle for explorers in our modern age.

An Off-Road Warrior in the Perfect Package

Ford gives standard four-wheel drive to all models of the 2022 Bronco Sport, making this a subcompact SUV that does more than travel the roads. Even in the Base model, the Bronco Sport offers true 4x4 capability with the standard HOSS suspension system and five G.O.A.T. modes. For the suspension, Ford equips every Bronco Sport with a tough, off-road-ready capability that provides responsiveness for better articulation during maneuvers, as well as making the interior ride more comfortably both on-road and off. G.O.A.T. modes, which stands for Goes Over Any Terrain, are selectable for the terrain at hand, including Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery, and Sand.

Most models come standard with the surprisingly powerful 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbo I-3 engine that generates a proficient 181 hp with 190 lb-ft of torque to carry the Bronco Sport over rough terrain. When taking paved roads to your outdoor recreation locales, the 1.5-liter EcoBoost gets excellent fuel efficiency of 25 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. This engine is paired to the standard eight-speed automatic transmission that smoothly transitions during acceleration and offers all the power needed for any driving conditions. Towing with this engine allows for small equipment trailers or micro-campers up to 2,000 pounds, and standard ground clearance of 7.8 inches offers plenty of height for tackling obstacles when hitting the trail.

Upgrading to the Badlands model includes two more G.O.A.T. modes, with the addition of Mud/Ruts and Rock Crawl that come with the increased capability of this trim level. For the Bronco Sport, the Badlands trim is the zenith of capability. The more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost I-4 engine provides an extra dose of capability with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. With the included Advanced 4x4 system, torque can be delivered to either rear wheel through the twin-clutch system for powerful off-road prowess. The standard 17-inch wheels are fitted with all-terrain tires, metal bash plates provide extra protection against damage from obstacles on the trail, and the Badlands increases its extra ground clearance to 8.8 inches. Even water fording up to 23.6 inches is within the power of the Badlands trim, which also gains towing capacity of 2,200 pounds.

    Cargo and Convenience

Exploring the countryside with the impressive capability of the 2022 Bronco Sport is only the beginning of all the opportunities available to owners. Ford considered carefully how to build an SUV that could first be the transport to remote places and then to have that transport become a base camp for rest. Starting with the safari-style roof, Ford builds the Bronco Sport to be able to accommodate two bikes in the rear cargo area and even supplies the available bike rack to make travel simpler. In addition, the raised roof gives more headroom to rear-seat passengers, so your tall friends or family won’t have to duck while you travel. The easy-to-clean cloth seats are made for quick clean-up after messy adventures, and buyers of the Big Bend trim can add rubberized seatbacks to make the cargo bay easier to clean, too.

Other advantages to the Big Bend model include the organization features like the standard MOLLE strap system perfectly suited to storing small items like flashlights, tools, and carabiners, so you always know where they are. Adding the available zippered pockets to the seatbacks gives more storage organization in tandem with the standard cargo hooks and tie-downs found in the rear cargo area. Convenience features like automatic climate control and available heated seats bring comfort to chilly mornings on the trail in the Big Bend or choose the Outer Banks model with standard leather seats, dual-zone climate control, and a heated steering wheel for even more comforts away from home.

The Outer Banks trim for the 2022 Bronco Sport takes a more comfort-oriented approach to the outdoors with other convenient features as well, which lend themselves to more relaxed daily driving. Standard Outer Banks model features include an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, fog lights, and a windshield wiper de-icer, all of which can come in handy whether you’re driving in town or far away from home. Finally, the top of the trim levels is the Badlands model, which features the most off-road ready capability. Front sport seats revert to the more durable cloth for quick clean-up, though the option to add leather is available. Under-seat storage is added on the passenger side beneath the rear bench for stowing gear or valuables, as well as retaining all the storage options of the previous trim levels.

  • Technology

Equipped With Technology to Help With Every Aspect of Your Adventures

In the 2022 Bronco Sport, technology is for more than just entertainment, with features dedicated to taking the trail when you feel inspired. Technology begins with the standard eight-inch touchscreen in the center stack, where the rearview camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the SYNC 3 system are all accessed. Ford’s SYNC 3 system incorporates advanced voice recognition technology that makes interacting with the system more natural when you’re on the go, and standard FordPass app connectivity comes with complimentary remote features like locking or unlocking and remote starting from anywhere you can use your phone. The available 4G WiFi hotspot can be activated at any trim level for connecting up to ten devices, at a range up to 50 feet away from the Bronco Sport.

All 2022 Bronco Sport models come standard with four charging ports, two of which are accessed from the rear of the center console for back seat passengers to keep charged on the road. Two 12-volt power points add more options for plugging in items in the cargo bay or front seat. The standard six-speaker audio system can be upgraded to the ten-speaker Bang & Olufsen system with the Outer Banks and Badlands trim, and wireless charging becomes available with the Big Bend model. For the trail, Ford provides numerous technology options to keep adventures safer and easier, like available “breadcrumb navigation” that keeps track of your route so you can follow the same route back, even without satellite service.

To better see the trail ahead and avoid dangerous obstacles, available 180-degree camera views show the terrain ahead of the Bronco Sport, so the driver sees whatever is in the path. The Badlands model comes standard with Trail Control, which acts much like cruise control at low speeds. Turn on Trail Control when the need to focus on maneuvers means your attention isn’t divided by having to manage the speed. Set the speed as slow as needed, and then the driver can simply direct the Bronco Sport over the terrain. Ford knows the 2022 Bronco Sport is going to spend time on the roads, too, so every model also comes standard with CoPilot 360 driver-assist technology for preventing or mitigating accidents in traffic.
