Truckers looking for an affordable and feature-filled midsize truck that won’t put a hole in their wallet are likely going to want to scout out the 2023 Ford Ranger. It’s a reliable truck designed to give you everything you need from a performance and utility perspective without putting a heavy burden on your finances. The 2023 Ford Ranger continues the trend of staying a high-feature alternative to other midsize truck options on the market.

For the 2023 model year, the Ranger retains its most prized updates from the 2022 model year outing, but with an extra surprise in the form of a new addition made available for the Ranger Splash Package offerings. The 2022 model year introduced a number of different special limited edition Rangers in the form of the Sand Edition, Forest Edition, and Snow Edition. For 2023 there is a limited availability of the Jungle Edition to help round out the Splash Package offerings, featuring an Eruption Green body paint and Magnetic accents in the form of a painted surround for the black grille. There is also the inclusion of Magnetic-themed door handles, bumpers, and moldings around the exterior. 18-inch matte-black wheels are paired with 30-inch all-terrain tires. Carbon-weave tuxedo stripes paired against an Ash Gray interior and leather seats help round out the offerings of the Jungle Edition Ranger.

The special Splash edition of the midsize pickup may be available in limited quantities, but you can still get the 2023 Ford Ranger in a number of other trims in wide availability, including the base Ranger XL, the Ranger XLT, and the Ranger Lariat. Performance

All the Performance a Midsize Truck Needs

The Ranger is powered by a single turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that produces 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque that is paired up with a ten-speed automatic transmission. You can also have the Ranger configured in two different drivetrain formats, including rear-wheel drive for more rear-wheel torque and performance or a four-wheel drive configuration if you need more stability and traction, especially for off-road productivity and utility.

The 2.3-liter EcoBoost is built around Start-Stop technology with a 16-valve direct injection system, so the engine basically pares down its workload when it’s not needed to save on fuel and improve travel efficiency. This makes the twin-turbocharged Ranger a great truck for daily driving as well, enabling it to achieve a fuel economy that averages 21 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway when configured in rear-wheel drive. With four-wheel drive, you can achieve a fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. This makes the Ranger more than capable of handling all your daily driving needs, whether it be on or off the road.

The Ranger also comes with an electronic-shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) dial for the four-wheel drive iteration, enabling you to switch between rear-wheel and four-wheel configurations depending on what you need to use the truck for. The three ESOF modes include 4L, 4H, and 2H. It also works hand-in-hand with the available electronic-locking rear differential, which comes with the FX4 Package, enabling better traction control and stability for when you need to put the torque to work and get out of muddy situations or difficult terrain predicaments.

Capability

From Commuting to Working to Adventuring, the Ranger Is Ready

Thanks to being built on a fully-boxed high-strength steel chassis and featuring a stiffened suspension with gas-powered shock absorbers and rear-leaf springs, the 2023 Ford Ranger is constructed to be a midsize pickup truck designed to handle not just daily driving and off-road traversal but also utilitarian tasks that midsize trucks are known for tackling. Ford has ensured that you can take the Ranger to a work site and reliably use it for towing and hauling, as well as for use with light trailering. There are systems in place that make the Ranger a viable work truck, and the powertrain enables it to tow and haul comfortably.

In fact, the 2023 Ranger can tow up to 7,500 lbs worth of cargo, making it a very competitive midsize truck in the segment. If you need the Ranger for hauling cargo to and from a destination, you can make use of either the five-foot bed with up to 43.3 cu.ft. of cargo volume or the six-foot bed with up to 51.8 cu.ft. of cargo volume, allowing you to haul up to 1,905 lbs in the bed box. The options give it a lot of versatility on the market, while the design ensures that it’s more than capable of handling the utility it’s designed for.

The 2023 Ranger comes standard with four-wheel disc brakes and features built-in Trailer Sway Control. This means that you can trailer cargo with the Ranger without worrying about it getting away from you on winding roads or during windy travel days. The added availability of Ford’s Trail Control also adds to the stability factor for when you’re traveling across difficult or unpredictable terrain. In fact, it fits in line with the available Terrain Management System, which features four different drive modes, enabling you to change up how the Ranger can maneuver based on what you need to use the truck for. With the scalability of wheel and tire sizes, ranging from 16-inch wheels up to 18-inch wheels, with available 31-inch all-terrain tires, you can customize the Ranger to fit your driving preferences as needed.

Built for Comfort During Any Drive

The 2023 Ford Ranger has a lot of outstanding performance and utility features, but it’s also an excellent truck when it comes to comfort and convenience as well. The Ranger can seat up to five people across two rows in either SuperCab or Super Crew format. Cloth seats come standard, but leather upholstery is available for the Lariat trim. You can also take advantage of available dual-zone electronic climate control, carpeted floor mats, and an available eight-way power driver seat with lumbar support. Available Intelligent Access with push-button start makes getting into and out of the Ranger easy.

Packed With the Latest Ford Tech

The integrated suite of safety features and driver assists make the Ranger more than safe on the road. In fact, with the Ford Co-Pilot360, you have lots of amazing driver-assist tech at your disposal, including the Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert. There is Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, which also includes Pedestrian Detection, to help prevent front-end collisions. The Lane-Keeping System helps you stay on track in your lane, and there are available automatic high-beam headlamps to make night driving just a little bit easier. All-in-all, the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite is a robust and fully well-rounded driver-assistance system for the Ranger.

When it comes to display technology and infotainment, you have a standard 2.3-inch productivity instrument cluster, but for the XL and Lariat, there is a fully featured 4.2-inch digital driver information display cluster, along with an accompanying eight-inch HD LCD capacitive touchscreen. The HD infotainment display is powered by the Ford SYNC 3 infotainment suite, featuring Bluetooth wireless connectivity and integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can connect and enjoy your favorite media apps from the Ranger’s infotainment center. This also includes full navigation support along with features like a trial to SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

Further connectivity in the form of FordPass Connect enables the Ranger to keep up to ten devices connected to the internet even when you aren’t near any Wi-Fi hotspots. This is thanks to the ability to use the Ranger as a Wi-Fi hotspot with 4G LTE network connectivity. This also includes features like AppLink, 911 Assist, and voice-activated travel and navigation support. If you really want to boost the entertainment qualities of the Ranger to the next level, you can get it with an available B&O premium sound system by Bang & Olufsen, the perfect way to make the Ranger a midsize mobile entertainment hub for those who appreciate great infotainment features while on the go.
